Det var längesen det bekräftades att Stephenie Meyers bok ”The Host” (sv. titel ‘Genom dina ögon‘) skulle bli film. Den 23 sep 2009 gav Meyer ett utlåtande om detta på hennes officiella sajt (klicka här för att se inlägg). Sedan dess har vi inte fått veta så mycket om filmen.

Men håll i hatten, för nu har den första skådespelerskan bekräftats! :D Den irländska 17-åriga skådespelerskan Saoirse Ronan har fått rollen som huvudkaraktären Melanie Stryder.

Saoirse Ronan has been set to star in The Host, the screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer. Scripted by Andrew Niccol, the film figures to be one of the hot titles when Inferno launches sales at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival next week. Niccol, who was originally set to direct, might resurface as the filmmaker.

The Wall-Street Journal har ett litet bonus utdrag från boken The Host av Stephenie Meyer. Utdraget kommer från en kapitel som inte finns med i boken, men som kommer att publiceras i den kommande engelska paperback (pocket) utgåvan nu i April. Ni kan läsa en del av utdraget här nedan:

One of these extraterrestrials, who goes by the name Wanda, develops an unusual relationship with Melanie, the woman whose body she has taken over.

Here is an exclusive mini-excerpt from the paperback:

I’m all alone.

It’s dark. I can’t remember where I am … or why I’m here. It’s wrong that I’m alone. Where is Wanda? I can’t see to look for her. I can’t remember how to call for her. It’s silent. I can’t feel her. I can’t feel our body.

Panic starts to set in as I wait for her voice. For her to say my name. To tell me where we are. To open my eyes so we can see. I need to hear her voice — my voice, in my softest tone, my gentlest inflection.

I wait, but there is nothing. Just me and the dark.

The panic gets worse as I try to remember. Did she shut me out again? That happened once, I know, but I don’t remember it. I don’t think it was like this, panicking in the dark. It was just nothing then.

And I don’t think Wanda would do that. Because we love each other. I remember we said that. Just before …something. I try to dredge up the memory.

I morse skrev jag i ett inlägg att det är bekräftat att The Host kommer att bli film! :D

Nu har ingen mindre än självaste Stephenie Meyer gett ett utlåtande. Hon verkar väldigt glad!

I’m so excited to be working with Nick Weschler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz to bring The Host to a visual format. They’ve all been a dream to work with, so lovely and collaborative, and I feel like we’re in a really good place to make a great movie together. And then to have Andrew Niccol writing and directing? Truly awesome. If you’ve never seen Gattaca, go watch it now. One of my favorite movies of all time. It’s such a great example of character driven science fiction, which is ideal for The Host, no? I’m having an absolute blast imagining different dream casts, which I would post if people didn’t take my silly blogs so seriously these days. I’m looking forward to seeing the cast lists you come up with in the fansite forums, and if any of them match mine.

Nu pågår det givetvis diskussioner om vilka skådisar som passar att vara med i filmen. Jag älskar ”The Host” och har sedan jag läste den första gången väntat efter att få höra att den ska bli film så kunde inte vara mer lycklig just nu! Har ni några särskilda skådisar som ni tycker bör vara med i filmen? Jag skulle t.ex. gärna se Jensen Ackles i rollen som Jared! <3

Det verkar som om att Stephenie Meyers bok The Host nu kommer att bli film!

Producers Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz have used their own money to acquire screen rights to ”The Host,” the first adult novel written by Stephenie Meyer, author of the ”Twilight” series.

Andrew Niccol will write the script and direct.
